Glin Gwee ‘Fold’

@glingwee

Glin Gwee is an androgynous photographer based in Singapore. FOLD is a documentation of non-binary body and the discovery of TransTape— a modern way of binding and a gender-affirming body transformation system for transgender, gender-fluid, gender non-conforming and asexual humans.

I was introduced to TransTape by my trans-masculine friend and immediately arranged a photoshoot with him to document the marks on his skin. Being queer and androgynous myself, I do feel a certain degree of body dysphoria so I feel extremely heartened to see the existence of more comfortable ways of binding — to help individuals feel more comfortable in their skin.

I named this series ‘Fold’ because folding is to cover, to wrap. Yet it can also be a form or shape produced by the gentle draping of a loose, full garment or piece of cloth. Doesn’t that sound like embracing one’s body? I thought it would be the most suitable title for this series of images.

I mostly enjoy working with queer individuals — to listen to narratives and meet people of different walks of lives. My body work is to spread awareness of gender non-conforming individuals like myself. I yearn to share and help educate more people about gender identities — to embrace differences & celebrate individuality. Regardless our gender, race and differences, we are still all under the same sky.
