Nikki Beedham is a photography student at Leeds college of art. She is a conceptual photographer and works on projects influenced by her personal experience that aim to bring to light issues others may relate to.
“The series “Sheets” is a photographic project which explores the romanticised view of a relationship and more personally, my own fear of them. By using the element of symbolism, I could project my own feelings about romantic relationships through the images. The bed sheets represent the marital bed, in which traditionally is a significant aspect of not only relationships, but also marriage. Through the use of bondage equipment, I have succeeded in reflecting my own opinions and past experiences of relationships in the chosen images. This infers feelings such as: a loss of identity and becoming constricted and emotionally reliant on another, which are just a few examples of my personal fears.“
