“Lijami” from the sicilian word for “bond” is part of Rebecca Dorothy’s ongoing project about family. Graziana, Elena, Barbara, Asia and Ljuba are the women of the Bacchelli’s family, some of them saw Rebecca growing up, some grew up together with her and others she has seen growing. There is one element which represents them besides their family name, which is the braid.
I’ve always been fascinated by the long elegant hair of Nonna Graziana, and wanted to portray the family while braiding; something natural and sweet but so meaningful at the same time.
Braiding like bonding, like trapping your sadness and problems, braiding like supporting, like inheriting a tradition, braiding like a symbol of strength and femininity.
