The Art of Fashion at MODALISBOA SINGULAR

@lisboafashionweek

The 63rd edition of MODALISBOA SINGULAR lit up Lisbon’s creative scene, blending fashion, technology, sustainability, and culture over four exhilarating days (October 10-13, 2024). In addition to a lineup of more than 20 designers, this season featured engaging FAST TALKS at MUDE, the forward-thinking beat by be@t project focusing on sustainability, and the SANGUE NOVO competition showcasing fresh talent. We were lucky to be part of it, and here are the standout female designers who brought unique narratives to life through their collections.

  • KOLOVRAT, Lidija Kolovrat’s brand, explores bold abstract forms, architectural silhouettes, and emotional depth. Her SS25 collection reflects 30 years in Portugal, showing how this journey shaped her and deepened her connection to its culture. Kolovrat created an artistic language expressing a range of emotions—sometimes reserved, yet nostalgic and deeply emotional. The designs follow a twofold focus: large, flat forms and structures that resonate with the essence of Fado.

  • BÉHEN presented her whimsical collection, “You’re Mean,” which playfully fuses traditional Portuguese elements with couture-level craftsmanship. Steeped in sustainability, the garments are crafted from upcycled fabrics rich in heritage, through embroidery and textile manipulation techniques. The collection adds humor and sweetness with cultural references like “Beijinhos” pastries, creating a charming blend of tradition and modernity.

  • Constança Entrudo invited the audience to reflect on the true meaning of well-being, especially when feeling overwhelmed. Her #SS25 collection ventures into the realms of textile manipulation and mixed media, blending innovative design with a dash of irony.

  • HIBU Studio’s show at Modalisboa SS25 radiated the distinctive energy of its founder, Marta. The collection burst with bold yellows and icy blues, playfully contrasted against fluffy textures and minimalist silhouettes. Known for her gender-neutral approach, HIBU expertly combines simplicity with a whimsical flair, creating standout pieces that defy convention. Each look is a masterclass in balancing vibrant hues with thoughtful geometry, making it a fresh addition to the season’s fashion landscape.

These designers, alongside others, encapsulated the event’s theme of singularity while embracing plurality in design and storytelling. In essence, MODALISBOA SINGULAR mirrored the cross-cultural, progressive, and uniquely creative city it represents.
